Kseniya Hazhilenko, Fertility Specialist at ISIDA Clinic Represented Ukraine at the World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
The World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss took place on January 19-22, 2017 in Cannes, France, bringing together participants from 48 countries to discuss causes, diagnostics and treatment of different miscarriage cases. Ukraine was represented by Kseniya Hazhilenko, Fertility Specialist at ISIDA Clinic’s Infertility Treatment Department.
In the vast majority of cases, recurrent pregnancy loss happens for reasons which can be established only by means of gradual and often long and complex examination. Once the cause for miscarriage is identified, the treatment may include prescribed medications and psychological support, but more often than not more serious methods, such as OP treatment, assisted reproductive technologies, including Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, commonly referred to as the PGD, are required.
Generally speaking, specialized health care facilities engaged in pregnancy loss diagnostics, treatment and prevention offer a full range of necessary treatment options. Exchange of experience regarding the establishment of such centers in different countries across the globe was an important part of the Congress’ activities.
A lively discussion also revolved around matters concerning immunology and genetic evaluation for reproductive losses. Each representative of the specialized area attempted to prioritize “own” subject matter in many cases of miscarriages early in the pregnancy.
Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis of embryos in patients with recurrent miscarriage has opened new prospects for treatment, without disregarding the relevance and influence of other possible factors.
To assess the relevance and effectiveness of established causes and treatment methods, modern medicine appeals primarily to the evidence. Thus, provision of accurate information obtained as a result of tests and examination - in accordance with relevant requirements was a vital part of reports and discussions. Only based on the investigation of a number of cases, it is possible to understand whether the specific method works or not and later avoid unjustified treatment that becomes not only a heavy financial but also a physical burden for the patient’s health.
Acquiring new knowledge, exchange of experience, presentation of own results, face-to-face interaction with the leading experts and “living legends” from the health care field are among key objectives of these forums. However, it is no less important to ensure that doctors at ISIDA Clinic who treat recurrent pregnancy loss have not only the necessary knowledge and deep understanding of the problem, but the most advanced technologies at hand to use efficiently according to the existing standards and practices of evidence-based medicine, obtaining the same results as the world's best health care facilities for miscarriage prevention and treatment.
